Summer is in full swing after the solstice on June 20th, with more heat and humidity for much of the Northern Hemisphere. How do we stay in harmony with nature while staying as healthy as possible despite the muggy heat? It’s all about consciously connecting to and creating inner peace and "coolness" inside, especially since the Summer is associated with the energy of Fire and the Heart. By minimizing emotional turmoil and physical effort, one can stay balanced and cool, inside and out.
TCM cautions that for stroke prevention during the height of the intense summer heat, it’s especially important to stay hydrated as well as peaceful and cool, particularly if you have high blood pressure, constipation, and are on medication. A few minutes daily of a slow, relaxing activity such as Qigong energy exercise, meditation, or Taiji, can go a long way towards stroke prevention. The best way to cool your organs down internally are to eat more watermelon and mung beans, which both have a powerful cooling effect.
Loving yourself by honoring your heart's desires is the other most important practice for the ultimate wellness "glow-up" in the Summer, the season energetically connected to the Heart. Life is too short not to love yourself fully, as no one else in the world can love and understand yourself as much as you do.
Following your heart is the most important thing you can do to feel and look your best, inside and out. We hope that you follow all your heart's desires this summer for ultimate abundance, health, and happiness.
